Christmas in July! Quilt as You Go Tree Time Placemats

Class Description

Use a fun focus fabric and learn the Quilt as You Go technique where the piecing and quilting are combined to make this placemat project fast and fun!

Supply List

• Sewing machine with walking foot or IDT; bring all your feet and accessories just in case
• Sewing machine needles: Quilting or Topstitch Size 90
• 50 wt thread to match backing fabric (we sell Wonderfil Konfetti) and 50 wt netural thread to piece
• Basic sewing kit (seam ripper, snips, etc)
• Straight pins
• Heat erasable Frixion Pen, size .7 mm
• Soft HB pencil
• Quilting ruler, 6 x 24 or similar size
• Cutting mat, Rotary Cutter, Quilting ruler – 6 ½” x 24” or similar size
• Tree Time Place Mat Pattern by GE Designs
• Fabric Requirements (for 4 place mats):
  Fabric A (tree background) = fat quarter
  Fabric B (tree) = fat quarter
  Fabric C (tree trunk) 1.5” x 12” brown (will be provided when you pick up your pattern)
  Fabric D (main/focus fabric) = 0.35 m
  Fabric E (border & binding) = 1.1 m
  Backing Fabric = 0.80 m
  Fusible Fleece = 0.90 m

Please arrive at class with all pieces cut.
Do not cut binding or border (Fabric E) (to be discussed in class)

• Fabric A (tree background): Cut One 2-1/2” strip and sub cut into Eight 2-1/2” squares. Cut Four 3” strips and sub cut into Twenty-Four 3” squares.
• Fabric B (tree): Cut Two 5-1/2” strips and sub cut into Twelve 5-1/2” x 3” rectangles.
• Fabric C (tree trunk): Cut Four 1-1/2” x 2-1/2” rectangles.
• Fabric D: Cut Four 10” high and 9” wide rectangles from a focus print or a panel.
• Backing fabric and batting: Cut Four 16” x 20” rectangles from each.
