Learn to Sew!
Class Description
Yes, you read that right… this is a 100% beginner basic learn to sew class!
Gain confidence on your sewing machine and learn all the basics to get you started.
This class is for you if:
- you have a machine but don’t know what to do with it
- you want to buy a machine but aren’t sure you’re ready to invest
- have forgotten everything you learned in home-ec class
- want to start sewing asap; with a little help!
In this class you will:
- review the basics of how to thread and operate your machine
- learn sewing best practices, essential for any project
- sew a straight stitch, backstitch and turn corners
- install a zipper (it’s not as hard as you think!)
- press your seams using an iron
- insert a pillow form into your newly made pillow cover
Start your sewing journey confidently with great beginner friendly knowledge that will take you on to fantastic future sewing projects!
We will provide the fabric, pillow form and zipper required for this project.

Supply List
- Sewing machine in good working order* (bring your foot control, power cord, manual and all of your feet & accessories)
- All purpose machine foot and zipper foot
- Extra machine needles** (size 80 Universal or Microtex)
- Neutral colour 50wt high quality polyester thread & 2 bobbins** filled with this thread
- Basic sewing kit including: fabric scissors, small scissors or snips, seam ripper, long straight pins
* If you do not have a machine yet, one of our classroom machines can be made available for you. Please ensure you ask us about this well in advance of your class!
** Needles and bobbins are not universal to all machines. Make sure you’ve got the correct ones for your specific machine. Not sure? Ask us for assistance!

| Instructor Bio: | Co-Owner, Shannon Gardiner, a Certified Window Design Specialist and BurdaStyle Certified Teacher, has a long history of design passion with experience as a custom closet design specialist, custom bag designer and maker, theatre practitioner and makeup professional. She continues to work closely the Drapery Trends team at the in-house drapery workroom to help customers choose the right window treatments and accessories for their home. Shannon is also devoted to teaching and assisting customers with their personal sewing projects pertaining to fashion, accessories, and home d?cor. A friendly face delighted to assist you with all your creative endeavors! |
