Beginner Alterations
Class Description
Sometimes it’s hard to know what is possible and what simply can’t be done to a garment and sometimes your clothes just need a quick fix. If you're tired of having to send them to someone else, join us for our Beginner Alternations class and learn how to rock the most common sewing repairs and alterations that get you into a better fit!
In this introductory class, you will learn about adjusting the fit of your own garment - taking in, letting out, shortening, lengthening etc.
Bring in an item you wish to alter (and a backup - just in case!) and work with us on making the needed adjustments.

Supply List
- Sewing Machine with all purpose foot; bring all your accessories and manual just in case
- 1 garment that needs alternation, and 1 backup garment
- Thread to match/coordinate with fabric
- Universal Sewing Machine Needle – Size 80 or 90
- Fabric scissors / Craft scissors / Thread snips
- Marking tool (chalk, Frixion pen, etc)
- Pins and/or wonder clips
- Hand sewing needle
- Ruler
- Measuring Tape
*NOTE: Your sewing machine should be in good working order. We will not be trouble shooting machine problems during this class. If you need machine service, please contact us; we service most makes and models.

Skill Level: | Intermediate |
Skill Details: | For this class experience in completing several sewing projects is needed. This class will not cover basic sewing machine operations such as threading a needle, switching needles, how to adjust stitch length, locking stitches, reverse stitching, pivoting corners, winding bobbins etc. Students should be capable of performing these procedures without assistance. |

Instructor Bio: | Barbara started sewing at the age children begin playing with Barbie dolls. Having made her own clothes through public and high school it was natural for her to open a sewing business with a friend after graduation. Later she owned her own dress making business employing 5 people where she collaborated with an image and wardrobing consultant creating garments for clients. Among other things, she constructed costumes, bridal gowns, and performed alterations for local retailers. Barb worked with a master tailor completing alterations on menswear, and has been employed by several menswear clothing stores. |
